The following files are included in this distribution:

1.	NEC2.PPC - A PowerPC native NEC2 application.

2.	NEC2.68K(SANE) - A "universal" version that uses Apple's native
floating point numerics.  This will run on PPC based machines as well as
68K machines without a math coprocessor, and is provided as a courtesy
to those Mac users who have such machines.  To the extent that I do any
more development on these applications at all, this will receive the least
attention.  If you have a 68K machine with a coprocessor, you may want
to consider downloading the application NEC2(Mac). Be sure to read the
"README" that comes with it also.

3.	NEC2 Sources Folder - C source code from which the NEC2.PPC application
was compiled.  Source code for the timing subrouting secnds_ is included.
This emulates the VAX FORTRAN system call "SCNDS" in the VAX version
of the FORTRAN source code used to generate the the C source code, using Mac
Toolbox routines.  Different utility routines are used for PPC and 68K; the
timing values generated by the 68K versions may be suspect.  Caveat emptor.

4.	nec-2.f - FORTRAN source code for NEC2.  This is the VAX implementation
of 4/11/80 by J. Breakall, and modified by Barry Newberger, W5KH, 11/12/93,
to run on the Mac with 4 byte reals.

5.	PPC Test Results Folder - Includes files CTESTX1-CTESTX7, NEC2 output
for the seven "standard" test problems
provided with the C source code from the Unofficial NEC Archive.  These
were generated with a Powerbook 5300 running a PPC 603e chip at 100 MHz.

6.	This README_FIRST file.

The executables are freely distributable, provided this README_FIRST file
accompanies the distribution.  No claim whatsoever is made to the source code.

After launching the application, a command-line dialog box will appear.  Just
hit "OK".  The a console window will appear.  Type in the name of the file
containing the NEC input deck, and hit "RETURN".  When execution completes, a
message to that effect will appear in the console window.  Hit quit.  A
dialog box will appear asking if you want to save the the XXX.out file.  This
file is just a record of the console window, it is not the execution run output.
That is automatically saved in a file whose name is determined by a parameter
in the input deck.  Refer to the NEC manuals for further instructions on using
NEC2.


Notes:
The C source code was generated using Mac F2C, version 1.3.2.  It was
compiled using Metrowerks CodeWarrior 11, to produce the NEC2.PPC
and NEC2.68K(SANE) executables.

If the PPC application quits at launch whith a system error saying that the
application quit unexpectedly, increase its memory allocation.  I have
successfully run it with 2MB.
